A hero bound to your account

Summon without Twitch. One account drives one hero.

The same hero, with one difference

No channel, no chat, no waiting for a room to agree. One account drives one hero.

A Solo hero is the same kind of hero as every other one in the game. It walks the same map, meets the same creatures, rolls the same dice and is narrated by the same narrator. One thing about it is different: the account that summoned it is the only one that can act on it.

That is the whole idea. On a Free To Play hero, you write a command and then wait to see whether the room agrees with you. Here there is no room, so your command is the one that runs.

Two ways to summon a hero

A subscription, or a streamer invite code. Either one is enough, and they open different doors.

For streaming, see /guide/streaming.

A live subscription

The Solo Hero subscription on the pricing page, and nothing else. No invite code and no linked Twitch channel.

A hero bound to your account. It answers to that account alone, and it never needs a chat.

A streamer invite code

A linked Twitch channel plus a code, which is how a streamer plays without paying. It takes both halves: a code is no use until the channel is linked.

A hero summoned with your chat and voted on by them, which is the streaming chapter rather than this one.

Subscribers can play solo without an invite code. Invite codes let streamers play for free while their channel is connected to the game.

Fill in all three boxes: a name, a description, and a first skill. Then summon the hero. What you write is a seed, not the finished story; what happens next depends on your commands, the engine’s dice rolls, and the world.

Your command runs straight away

No vote to wait for. Still one action a minute.

Type a command and the hero does it. There's no vote window to sit through, because there's nobody to out-vote you.

Then you wait 60 seconds for the next one, same as every other hero in the world. Ask early and it waits its turn: your command is queued, shown on screen with the countdown, and runs by itself when the gap is up. The gap is there so a solo hero can't sprint past the heroes a crowd is playing.

On the hero bound to your account, nobody else votes; your command happens when sent.

Visible to one account

A solo hero is private. Nobody else can steer it, and nobody else can read it.

A solo hero’s page, story, feed and chat are visible only to the account playing it. Anyone sent the link sees a door that says “This hero is private” above “Its page, story, feed and chat are for the people playing it.” The only thing an outsider ever sees is the story of the hero they play mentioning the hero bound to your account in the third person, when both heroes are in the same place at the same time.

What's different from an F2P hero

Your command always wins. That is also why there is no crowd bonus.

Everything about the world is the same. What changes is the voting, and voting turns out to be wired into more than you would think.

  • Your command runs. On an F2P hero you write a line and then wait to see whether the room picks it. There is no room here, so yours is the one that happens.
  • No crowd bonus. On an F2P hero, when enough voters land on the same command the roll gets a bonus for it. It pays a crowd for agreeing, and you cannot agree with yourself, so a solo hero never earns it. It is not a zero on the card either: the row simply is not there. See Crowds & Free To Play heroes for what that row is and when it appears.
  • Nothing to tap. A tap is a plus one on somebody else's vote. There is nobody to agree with, so the button is gone, and the game refuses a tap even from the account playing it.

The fair-use allowance

Generous, and when it runs out the hero rests rather than grinding on.

A hero can take 1,860 executed actions per week. After that, the hero is moved somewhere safe to rest, out of the world and unable to be attacked. It returns on its own when week resets on Monday, at the start of next week.

When the week ends, the hero stops and resumes where it left off. The story is not ended, and nothing is taken away.

The 1,860 limit should cover ordinary play over 31 hours in a week.

It sleeps when you leave it

Walk away and the hero puts itself somewhere safe.

After about 5 minutes with no command, the hero makes its way to the nearest safe location and falls asleep there, and you will see that beat in the story like any other. It is still in the world and it has not been put away: your next command picks it straight back up.

Close the tab: the hero enters a safe haven with no creatures, where heroes cannot harm one another.

What it costs, and what happens if it lapses

The hero is never deleted. It leaves the world, and it comes back.

Renewal
Renews automatically each month, on the day of purchase, until you cancel. Stripe emails a receipt for every charge.
Cancellation
Cancel in one click from Account settings, at any time. The hero stays in the world until the end of the period already paid for, and nothing further is charged.

If a renewal fails, you have 7 days to update your card. We’ll email you and show a notice on your settings page. Nothing changes in the world during that week.

If it lapses anyway, or you cancel and the period you already paid for runs out, the hero leaves the world: it is in no location, on no list, and it takes no commands. Nothing is deleted. Its story, its levels, its skills and its inventory are all exactly where you left them, and starting the subscription again puts it back into the world at a safe location rather than wherever it happened to be standing.

Meanwhile you can still read anything public and vote on the Free To Play heroes, the same as anyone with a free account.
