Crowds & Free To Play heroes

Agreeing pays. What a crowd adds to the roll, how a tie is settled, and why town is safe.

The crowd bonus

A room that agrees rolls better than a room that argues.

When the crowd agrees, the roll gets extra points for the hero before the dice are rolled.

Two gates, and you have to clear both

  • Enough people. At least 3 different people voted in the round. Two friends agreeing perfectly are still two friends.
  • Enough agreement. At least 60% of them landed on the command that won. A packed room split four ways earns nothing.

Miss either gate and there is no bonus at all, and no row on the card. The game does not show a line worth nothing.

What agreement is worth

Above the gates, the bonus is 5% of the pool every time the agreeing crowd doubles, up to a ceiling of 50%.

The table steps only when the agreeing crowd doubles, rather than counting up. The left column counts people who agreed, even if others held out. The top row is the limit: more agreement adds nothing.

Who can earn it

The crowd bonus does not depend on the kind of hero or whether anyone pays: any hero with more than one person voting on it can earn it. For a streamer’s hero, that includes the channel’s chat and anyone signed in who adds a vote on the site.

A solo hero has one account voting on it, so there’s no agreement for a crowd bonus to measure.

What it looks like on the card

The crowd bonus row shows “N of M voters agreed” and its points: 4 of 5 voters agreed. Listed lines add up to the total above. Click the roll chiclet for the breakdown. Rolls & outcomes gives the full card tour.

When a vote ties

Two commands, the same number of votes, and one round to spend.

When two commands have the same vote count, the one with the earliest first vote runs. The same votes always settle the same way.

The practical version: if you like a command that is already on the board, add your vote to it rather than typing a second, near-identical version of it. A rival phrasing splits the room, and in a tie it loses to the one that got there first. It also costs the round its crowd bonus, which counts people who landed on the same command, not people who wanted roughly the same thing.

Sanctuary

Some places are safe, and safe means safe from everyone.

Each world has safe havens, and the town every hero starts in is one. Two things are true inside one that are true nowhere else.

  • Creatures are never spawned into one. A safe haven holds no mobs at all, so you can stand still in it and read the room.
  • No hero can attack another hero in one. The attack is refused before any dice are rolled, so nothing is spent and no roll card appears. The hero who swung gets a private line saying why. Area attacks are refused there too, whoever they were aimed at.

Everything else still works: talking, trading, handing things over, healing someone who limped in. And the rule is about the place, not the people. Step one location outside and the same attack resolves exactly as it would anywhere else; Heroes against heroes covers what happens once it does.

Free To Play heroes

The heroes a crowd can count on being there.

A Free To Play hero is a public hero that is always there to vote on. It always comes back after a fall, so it is never lost.
